Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Inspect drainage systems
   • Confirm the work to be undertaken
   • Check personal protective equipment for serviceability and correct fit
   • Identify work health and safety hazards associated with the activity and take appropriate steps to minimise risks to self and others
   • Inspect drainage system visually for blockages, leaks and operating faults
2. Maintain system components
   • Inspect components for wear or blockage
   • Service mechanical equipment
   • Replace simple components
3. Remove silt and weed growth
   • Clean silt from channels, drains, sumps and crossings
   • Remove weed growth
   • Flush drainage system
   • Observe water flow through channels and from outlets to confirm it is unobstructed
4. Record and report maintenance activities
   • Record blockage or leakage by type and location of the section of the system affected
   • Record and report damaged or faulty equipment
   • Record and report all routine maintenance activities
   • Check drainage system regularly
